Re: English Chitchat, let's go!!
@mrs.bee: boy is better, thanks. He's not very easy to handle at the moment. He throws tantrums when I leave him for example at music school, no idea why. So I've got to try and sort him out in front of 6 other kids. Not my idea of fun

Re: English Chitchat, let's go!!
Kara: baaah, not fun at all. Is it like the tantrums he had when he had his terrible twos or is it different? You'd hope it finishes at one point, but I guess until they're 30 they'll still get their knickers in a twist about nothing...
We had a crisis yesterday in a shop because I broke his Weggli open. Godness gracious, you'd thought I'd stolen it from him or hit him with an iron rod or something... Really hope that's not becoming a habit
Eva: good luck!

Re: English Chitchat, let's go!!
Just GOT to share this one:
1. My mother taught me TO APPRECIATE A JOB WELL DONE.
'If you're going to kill each other, do it outside. I just finished cleaning.'
2. My mother taught me RELIGION.
'You better pray that will come out of the carpet.'
...
3. My mother taught me about TIME TRAVEL.
'If you don't straighten up, I'm going to knock you into the middle of next week!'
4. My mother taught me LOGIC.
' Because I said so, that's why.'
5. My mother taught me MORE LOGIC.
'If you fall out of that swing and break your neck, you're not going to the store with me.'
6. My mother taught me FORESIGHT.
'Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you're in an accident.'
7. My mother taught me IRONY.
'Keep crying, and I'll give you something to cry about.'
8. My mother taught me about the science of OSMOSIS.
'Shut your mouth and eat your supper.'
9. My mother taught me about CONTORTIONISM.
'Will you look at that dirt on the back of your neck!'
10. My mother taught me about STAMINA.
'You'll sit there until all that spinach is gone.'
11. My mother taught me about WEATHER.
'This room of yours looks as if a tornado went through it.'
12. My mother taught me about HYPOCRISY.
'If I told you once, I've told you a million times. Don't exaggerate!'
13. My mother taught me the CIRCLE OF LIFE.
'I brought you into this world, and I can take you out.'
14. My mother taught me about BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION.
'Stop acting like your father!'
15. My mother taught me about ENVY.
'There are millions of less fortunate children in this world who don't have wonderful parents like you do.'
16. My mother taught me about ANTICIPATION.
'Just wait until we get home.'
17. My mother taught me about RECEIVING.
'You are going to get it when you get home!'
18. My mother taught me MEDICAL SCIENCE.
'If you don't stop crossing your -, they are going to get stuck that way.'
19. My mother taught me ESP.
'Put your sweater on; don't you think I know when you are cold?'
20. My mother taught me HUMOR.
'When that lawn mower cuts off your toes, don't come running to me.'
21. My mother taught me HOW TO BECOME AN ADULT.
'If you don't eat your vegetables, you'll never grow up.'
22. My mother taught me GENETICS.
'You're just like your father.'
23. My mother taught me about my ROOTS.
'Shut that door behind you. Do you think you were born in a barn?'
24. My mother taught me WISDOM.
'When you get to be my age, you'll understand.'
25. And my favorite: My mother taught me about JUSTICE.
'One day you'll have kids, and I hope they turn out just like you!'

Re: English Chitchat, let's go!!
@Mrs bee
hilarious! reading this first thing in the morning made my day.
how true it is... u know what went through my head when i read it? a "modern" family psychologist or whatever would surely say, those expressions are rather contraproductive than good for your cbilds behaviour. lol
but u know what, the last sentence is the one....however ur mum brought u up, that's how u bring up yours...even though - and i'm sure of that- we all said something like we don't want to be like our parents in some cases...
my hubby says in a few situations, that i'm just like my mum...gosh am i really??
have a good day peeps

Re: English Chitchat, let's go!!
Oh well, you know what they say: Women become like their Mums in older age. I don't know whether to fear this or look forward to it
And very often I catch myself saying something to little man that I swore I would never say to my child when Mum told me off. I didn't even last 2 years!
Wish you all a good day too
Toodle-oo

Re: English Chitchat, let's go!!
@mrs. Bee: how true i sometimes sound like my mum, even though I promised myself never to do certain things she used to do.
I rediscovered my sewing machine. It's been in a cupboard for at least 10 years. I completely relied ony mum whenever anything needed mending or altering. But I can do it, too. Boy has already ordered some new clothes for my old Sasha doll. He's not into dolls really. I don't know what was up with him today.
@ tantrums: just imagine a 110 tall boy jumping about 50 cm off the ground and slamming back down repeatedly and screaming tearfully at the same time hopefully not to be repeated tomorrow afternoon.

Re: English Chitchat, let's go!!
Guten Morgen Ladies
Nun meine Frage an euch.

I would have given a lot to have some English speakers around me in the beginning when I came to Switzerland. My German was very limited and all I could say were little things like "hello, my name is ..." and other such nonsense. I didn't have a job in the beginning, so I followed 2 German courses at the same time and spent a lot of time playing computer games

Re: English Chitchat, let's go!!
Hallo Nette
Good luck!

Pretty much - you?
We turned the flat upside down over Easter, been slaving to clean and re-arrange the furniture. Was worth it but knackering

Me too. The garden is calling again. Boy wants to plant all his peas and stuff again, which means digging and then I'm busying myself with spring cleaning (curtains etc.)
But today we had a relaxing da. We all went swimming at Bad Dürrheim (salt water spa)

Oooh, sounds wonderful! Garden: oh well, it's weeded, but the weather has been so miserable I really couldn't motivate myself to plant anything yet

Oh, good. I've been wondering how she's getting on, but never plucked up enough courage to contact her directly.
Rubbish weather. Hubby and boy have finally gone outside to play football and I'm watching my loaf rise in the oven

Hopefully the weather will improve soon and I'll be full of energy again. Boy is trying it on all the time now. It's a constant battle I think he's more than ready for kindergarten.
